OLD NEWS 2010

United Silver Fanciers

Fall Issue Deadline: January 30, 2011

Posted 12/20/10

Greetings to all,

Last Friday when I corresponded to this list, that correspondence was the last email I was able to send or receive. No information from telling us [their customers] that the company that provided email services was taken over by another company and that they refused to transfer our accounts. Their customers have not been aware of all the happenings, but I have now been added to the new company's Internet Service and am now tonight able to send and receive email by using another provider with a new address.

Please make note that if anything was sent to me from Friday through tonight that I was unable to receive email and that you need to resubmit anything that you did not receive a reply stating I received your correspondence.

Thank you in advance, but I am now confident this company will be reliable and am relieved to have them rescue us, as this has been an ordeal ongoing since Halloween.

Sincerely,
Judi at jayreming@zitomedia.net Email

Seasons Greetings,

I first want to offer congratulations to all the folks who helped and who worked so diligently to accomplish a superbly executed event as was evidenced by the Dixieland Show extravaganza this past weekend. Thank you to all you folks.

Next I wish to bring you up to date on what is happening with our Quarterly. It has been at the printers for 9 days and is due to ship this coming Monday. Most of you will have your copy of the Quarterly before New Years. I am not included, as it takes forever to get to where I live, but I can hope it will arrive shortly thereafter.

The next submission deadline is January 30, 2011, for our Winter 2010 issue of our Quarterly. Since plans are to create a large expose` commemorating the recent Dixieland Show, I am asking that everyone please send your information to be included in this write-up as soon as you possibly can.

In addition, there have been many shows this past couple of months throughout the regions and internationally. A few exhibitors have already submitted show scenes, and I have several pages already completed. This helps immensely in terms of effort and time. I wish to thank those of you who have been submitting your show scenes immediately after the shows take place.

The earlier I get the information, the sooner we can publish our Winter 2010 issue of the Quarterly. Also, it is much easier to sort and work with the information used for our Quarterly in small batches, as opposed to trying to assimilate large quantities of information on a given day.

Where to submit your information for our Quarterly:

ADS: Send to Gail Email

FINALS: Send to StacEy Email

GRANDS: Send to Cathy Email

TID BITS and HELPFUL HINTS: Send to Linda Email

SPOTLIGHTS: Send to Gail at kittikamir@charter.net at Email

SHOW SCENES: Send to Judy at Email

If you have questions about any of the above, please ask. We will try to get back to you asap.

Sincerely,
Judi Email

Dear USGF Members,

If the intention of this unsanctioned "USGF_Members" list is to engage in collaborative and constructive discussion to improve the USGF and to encourage members to step forward and offer their ideas, talents and time to volunteer to help with the hard work involved in creating the Q each quarter that is good.

If the intention of the list is what is stated above and what BB stated below are true, the list owners and moderators should be proud to step up and identify themselves and sign their names to their posts, rather than hiding behind anonymity.

It is my opinion positive and collaborative discussion is not a goal of the list owners and moderators. I believe their goal is self serving--do it my way, or we will bash you bloody as publically as possible. I believe this list was only created to bash the existing BOD. The BOD is always available for contact and welcomes all members' ideas, feelings or concepts one may have.

Enough of the bullying and ugliness! Ugly mudslinging only serves to destroy any camaraderie our fancy enjoys and embarrasses our beloved Silver and Golden Division. If this new list gets as ugly as I anticipate, I do believe we should complete the year and donate any remaining monies to the Winn Foundation. We have been through this too many times, with the same trouble making individuals, who rarely if ever step up and offer to volunteer their help.

If the list owners and moderators of "USGF_Members" are so unhappy, I suggest they step up and create their own club and newsletter to promote their personal agendas.

Judi and the BOD did an outstanding job on the fall issue and I personally cannot thank every volunteer enough for their efforts and hard work involved in the creation and delivery of the Q.

Sincerely,

Karol

Dear USGF Members,

The USGF is a CFA licensed member club whose only purpose is to create and preserve the written history of the Silver /Golden Persian cat within the CFA internationally, and promote the Silver and Golden Persian/Exotic cat. This is an effort of elected volunteers, which has been carried forward for over 40 years. Elections are held every other year and any USGF member is encouraged to stand for election. However rarely do we have many willing to step up. We do, however, occasionally have people, though unwilling to take an active roll, do enjoy creating disturbance among the membership by attempting activities such as the above creation of a collateral email list, operating in an unrecognized capacity. After such a wonderful summer issue, it still amazes me that there are people out there that can find fault with anything. There will always be people who like to gossip and like to cause harm to others if they think it will benefit them. You will normally find that the ones with the biggest mouth do the smallest amount of work and their purpose in life is to cause disharmony to others as they promote themselves.

The Board is trying to finish up with the Fall issue. It is a shame that there are others out there whose only goal is to stir the pot. I can tell you that it is hard for me to work in such an environment wondering what next is going to happen and I am sure that the majority of you out there would agree nor wish to be involved in this capacity.

We can certainly continue with the tradition of the USGF quarterly in a peaceful manner or we can now decide that in this environment of bullys and gossips that it is time to dissolve the USGF and donate the remaining money to the Winn foundation.

The BOD of the USGF welcomes all direct communication from the membership. [Go to the Contact Page and you can click on any of the envelops to communicate with any and all members of the BOD.]

Sincerely,

Gail Persinger, President USGF Email

Dear USGF Members,

Since the calendar has been given some extended mention on the list, I would like to take this opportunity to tell the members who have responded that we certainly appreciate all of you for pledging and giving your support for the calendar. We have four additional months taken since yesterday. We now have four months left and four days left until our closing on the 15th. If anyone is or has been thinking about putting your kittens or cats in the calendar, please contact Gail Persinger at: Email.to reserve your page in the calendar.

We look forward to having a calendar this year, but do need four more supporters before this can happen.

Sincerely,

Dear USGF Members,

At last -- Word was received confirming the Quarterly is on its way to Ardell Sims, who regularly distributes the Q and to Diana Bowles who volunteered to distribute comp copies being sent to the judges.

Ardell's shipment is scheduled to arrive on Friday. Diana's shipment is to arrive on Wednesday, as Diana is 1/2 the distance from the printer compared to Ardell. This printer offers free shipping be included no matter where we ship in the continental United States.

However, in order to do a split-mailing, the printer charges an extra $40 for this service, as split-mailing takes additional handling. Diana Bowles and myself are each contributing one-half the cost for this split-mailing to compensate for this added expense so that Diana may mail the judges copies.

More of note re show scenes: The Executive Board, as a result of their balancing our budget, unanimously agreed upon our adopting previously established guidelines for our show scenes, that is, as printed in my last announcement.

Please view the Executive Board's decision to adopt these guidelines as a measure for managing the Club's funds and for no other reason. These guidelines afford ample opportunity for our having a means to report the news of which the show scenes contribute a large portion. So please submit your show scenes and continue supporting this effort as you have done in the past.

We also enjoy viewing show scenes from our global members and encourage all of you to submit your show scenes. The membership is made up of a large number of exhibitors other than from just the US. So I extend to ALL this invitation: Please do send your photos from your CFA shows, as well. You folks are a goodly part of the news, as well.

One only has to view the Top Ten Winners and know that there is quite a large representation other than from the United States who are exhibiting our beautiful silver and golden cats.

Of serious note: There is only five days until the Calendar's closing date of October 15th. We have five members participating thus far. This leaves 8 more slots that need to be filled before we may produce a calendar for this year. If you believe we should produce a calendar for this year, please support this effort by contacting Gail Persinger and reserve your month. Gail's email address is Email.

Thank you for the time it took to read this latest update concerning the Quarterly and news regarding the USGF.

Sincerely,

Judi Yearsley Email

Dear USGF Members,

This is the latest on the Quarterly. The Quarterly is due to be shipped today [Thursday, 10/07/10] as partial shipment and the remainder of order tomorrow [Friday, 10/08/10]. UPDATE FROM PRINTER RECEIVED 10/07/10 -- 3:18 PM -- US Central Standard Time

Announcements and News follow below:

There are still months open for the upcoming 2011 Calendar. Closing for the Calendar is October 15th. We have some truly, extra ordinarily beautiful pages so far. The USGF is asking $75 per page. The cover has been taken. Contact Gail Persinger at kittikamir@charter.net to reserve your month in the calendar.

Some of the USGF members' cats and kittens are becoming celebrities in their own right. The probability surely exits that there are more than those I am prepared to name in this blurb. However, these cats and kittens have been brought to my attention of late because of our show scenes and the cat's owners submitting show scene photos for use in the Quarterly, i.e., sharing their good news. Among those recent notables are:

  1. Castlegate's Carrottop [though not all of Carrottop's wins were submitted -- among the submissions are a best kitten and numerous other finals].
  2. A kitten named Sanmar Yahaira owned by Shirley Crawford [made 7 finals out of 11 rings at a two-day 12-ring weekend which will be in our next issue].
  3. Brumar's kitten named Lion Blanc Shanghai of Brumar received best kitten and made finals in each ring at a show in Europe.
  4. GC Moldevea's King of Castlegate a 9-month old silver boy received all but 4 points to grand in 12 rings [back-to-back 12 ring, 2-day show].
  5. Last but not least are the accomplishments of a premier named GP LadyDi's Gucci owned by Robyn Mchale. Robyn is new to the fancy. Both Robyn and Gucci are doing a commendable job presenting Gucci. Gucci has in the last four months made several "Best in Premiership" and, in addition, making finals in all rings in at least three shows that are being reported in the Quarterly's Summer issue.

Mention of the above does not infer nor do I mean that the USGF is not just as proud of ALL of our members who show and support the fancy and who submit show scenes -- To the contrary, the USGF is so very proud of each of you -- we all know how much effort and preparation goes into showing our cats. The USGF likes to report these newsworthy events, i.e., reporting about your cats and the shows you attend. You all make it possible by sending photos to us for use in our show scenes' section. SHOW SCENES ARE NEWS!

Because the summer issue is going to so many of our judges, the Quarterly featured many of GP LadyDi's Gucci's final photos pictured with his owner Robyn Mchale, with both pictured with those judges who finaled him. We did so to draw attention to the fact that we were acknowledging how much it is appreciated when silvers and goldens are given placement in the finals. We acknowledged this on certain pages of the show scenes by saying thank you to the judges.

This feature was a one-time event because of the circumstance associated with this issue. i.e., the Quarterly is going to the judges. For future issues we will revert back to using our former guidelines and format for submitting shows scenes. We may try this format again next year for the Summer issue if all goes well with this trial run.

GUIDELINES for submission in our next issues will be those used in our past year's issues. These guidelines are as follows:

  1. One photo for each cat brought to the show and one photo of the owner of the(se) cat(s) -- either alone or holding a cat -- three photos max when only one cat is exhibited at the show.
  2. If judges are involved and you submit photos of the cat with judges, one extra photo is allowed -- you must pick your favorite judge-with-cat photo [but do send additional final info to StacEy Asby Email for use in reporting your finals in our "Finals" section when more than one judge finals your kitten(s) and cat(s)].
  3. GROUP pictures are NOT counted. We love to receive group photos, so please send these whenever possible. [Side Note: Please include info/names about the folks in your group photos.]

If you have any questions about submitting your photos, I am happy to correspond with you if you need additional information. You can contact me at Email

Hope you enjoy the Q when it arrives. We have begun work on the Fall issue which has a closing date of November 1st. There will not be such a lengthy time to prepare as it will be a much smaller issue than this summer issue. Don't forget about our "Specials on Kittens' Ads."

Dear USGF Members,

In the past, I received notices from our printer keeping me informed of the Quarterly's progress as it was being printed.

Yesterday, since I had not heard anything from our printer, I called them. The person who is a liaison between the print room and the customer informed me that they are running their printers as fast as possible, but that they have had a few problems and are experiencing some delays due to these problems which also are in addition to their high volume of work at this time of year.

Thus, the Quarterly's printing is further delayed and is rescheduled for mailing on the 5th of October. This is very disappointing for me, as well as for the Board, as we are wanting to see the finished product and want all of you to see this special edition , as well.

I want to share some of the news that is being reported in this issue of the Quarterly.

Some truly very amazing and special cats were awarded CFA's Top Ten in Championship, in Premiership, and in the Kitten Class. Among the Championship winners are two gorgeous littermates sisters -- one a shaded, GC BW, RW Vonguts Elite Edition -- and her chinchilla littermate GC RW Vonguts Elegant Edition . These two beautiful sisters scored first and second in CFA's Top Ten -- a feat having a first place winner, let alone having both the first and second place winners in one show season -- how commendable for a breeder to have accomplished this feat!

Next covering Premiership we have a beautiful, regal boy winning CFA's Top Ten in Premiership. He is GP, RW Dalee Romeo of Vay, taking top honors and owned and shown by Vay Kaplan.

Additionally, CFA's Top Ten in Kitten class is one beautiful, adorable kitten GC, RW Ultamint's Candy Man of La Catique and owned and shown by Wilma Van Scoyk.

CONGRATULATIONS TO THREE WINNERS of these awards!

We are already working on the Fall issue. Therefore, I am asking you to please send your show scenes and your spotlights and any other information you want to share for our use in the Quarterly as soon as possible. If we have another delay, the quicker we can get our files to the printer, the faster turn around it will be for our Quarterly to arrive at our homes.

The calendar is coming along beautifully. Brenda and I are working on the calendar this year. We still have pages available, so if you are thinking about advertising in the calendar, please make your reservation now. I believe the cover is still available. Submission for the calendar should be through Gail Persinger at kittikamir@charter.net

I want to thank you all in advance for your patience and urge everyone to send your spotlights, your show scenes, and your ads to us as soon as possible. November 1st is the deadline and we will gladly accept those items until that date, as well.

Sincerely,

Dear USGF Members,

It once again is time to begin working on our 2011 calendar. We have begun taking reservations. If you wish to participate in this year's calendar, please let Gail Persinger know. You may contact Gail Email in order to reserve your month in the calendar. Deadline for the calendar is Oct.15th.

About the Quarterly: The Quarterly (the Q) has been residing at the printers for the past 20 days. We hope it will be in transit to Ardell some time this week for sure.

Since this issue is going to the judges we have been anxioulsy working to ensure that it meet a critical standard so as to receive a positive critique from the judges. Our concerns being the presentation of all the wonderful cats found amist the pages. Thank you all for sharing your wonderful cats for this purpose -- without them, we would not have this issue.

Also, I will be sending out another notice about the special ad campaign we will be running in our next issue -- that being our Fall issue. The dealine for the Fall issue is Nov. 1st.

GOD's Blessings on all of you.

Sincerely,

Dear USGF Members,

Attention Exotic Breeders:

As I previously stated in previous emails: The upcoming Summer issue of the Quarterly is THE only issue that we submit to CFA's judges.

I posted recently to two public lists the statistics of the silver/golden Persian exhibitors by region. There was no mention of Exotics. I received one email back for this post that inquired as to why there is no mention of Exotics in those statistics.

The problem I am having is that there has only been the slightest of submissions for Exotics and those going only to our Spotlights section. There is one ad by one Exotic exhibitor, no show scenes or other information.

If you are an Exotic breeder/owner, and you have some information you believe can be used and would like included in this issue or any other issue, I would like to hear from you and would like you to submit for this use in the "Summer" Quarterly.

Further, I would like to know if you have received from CFA or any other registry any mention of where your Silver/Golden Division Exotics stand with any of your Exotic cats in any of the standings. WE did have mention of one CFA Golden Exotic last year which was recognized in our Regional write-up. This speaks so poorly because there are several Exotic breeders that I know who need to have the same privilege as the Persian members' cats receive in and through this publication.

Because basically I cannot do all this research on my own and because I do not have the names of your cats. I need your help in the area of:

Which cat/cats are the highest in a region for points so that I can submit this information for publication in the Quarterly, I am asking any Exotic exhibitor who has exhibited your cats during the 2009-2010 show season to send me your pictures and send to me your region and any other pertinent information that can be used to create a segment for the Exotics.

I would like very much to include the Exotics, who are every bit as much a part of this organization as are Persians.

Please do not let this ride as this is as important for the Exotics to have mention as for Persians -- particularly in this issue going to CFA's judges.

Sincerely,
Judi Email

Dear Members,

Two newsworthy items in the line-up in the appointing of your USGF staff --

I am happy to announce that we are incorporating a new segment of which is entitled "TidBits and Helpful Hints." Can include both health and/or task related items and a picture of interest. In our last issue [Spring 2010] you will find the beginnings for this on p. 28 following the Dentistry article [contributed by Linda Smith]. In adding this segment, we needed a team coordinator.

Linda Smith our newest Board Member is willing to collect information related to this segment. Linda's email address is: Email

If we get from the membership enough participation to fill up a whole page, we will print this each issue as such. If we run over the page, we will fill other pages having space on them with this information.

Each contribution will state who submitted the information. The thrust is to have our membership send in their most helpful and used hints on caring for cats. Also, if you have photo you would like to share for this, please send it along. The objective in this new endeavor is to make our Quarterly somewhat of a reference as well as an interesting, fun read.

Our next newsworthy item is the announcement that Ardell has elected to retire from compiling the finals and is passing the baton on to StacEy Asby. StacEy has willingly volunteered to take over this job. Thank you StacEy.

PLEASE SEND ALL FINALS TO StacEy Asby. StacEy's email address is: Email

Please include in the Subject Line the word "FINALS." If you do not hear back from StacEy within 24 - 48 hours, please send a follow-up email to ensure StacEy's receipt of your information.

Last but not least the Board wishes to thank Ardell for committing and devoting the time she has lovingly and willingly given to this endeavor for the past two+plus years. We are so very grateful for your service, Ardell. Ardell will still be mailing the Quarterlys to everyone, so she is still doing a big job for the Quarterly and the members. Thanks again, Ardell.

Sincerely,
Judi Email

Dear Members,

If you have used your USGF AUGUST CALENDAR to schedule any events, be sue to RECHECK for the proper date(s). THE DAYS IN YOUR AUGUST CALENDAR DO NOT reflect the correct days for the month of AUGUST. The first day of August begins on SUNDAY -- the correct date -- The calendar has the first day beginning on Monday.

Further, your USGF calendar ends the month on WEDNESDAY, which is also the wrong day. The correct end-of the-month day for August is TUESDAY. Thus, your August calendar is one day late [OFF BY ONE DAY] for the whole month.

Your September calendar has the correct beginning date, beginning on Tuesday September 1st.

I take full responsibility for this error, as I did not check this when the proofs came back prior to the printing of the calendar.

Be sure to go to your August calendar, and in the Notes section on that page, make notation of this error. My apologies to anyone who has had a problem stemming from this error.

Sincerely,
Judi Yearsley

Dear USGF Members

The Winter issue is at the printers and will soon be at your homes. As I previously mentioned, our deadline is April 30th. This is the time to renew your business card ads and to place ads showcasing your kittens or your favorite show cat. Please let me know if we should use the same business card or create a new one for you. Don't wait until the last minute. If you have not sent in your membership renewals please do so now.

Judi Yearsley has done a fabulous job as Editor this time and it is our biggest yet - 92 pages! Please check out our website at http://www.unitedsilverandgoldenfanciers.com, Karol Cummins, our online Editor has done a great job with updating our website. She is constantly tweaking it and making it better than ever! It has everything that you need to know about the USGF.

Without the talents of our board Ardell, Sally, Vicki, Diana and our newest board member Linda Smith and other USGF talents such as Tinell Priddy, Peggy McDaniels, Stacey Asby, Shirley Crawford, Laurence Delleville, Tracy Smith, Pam Hill, Cathy Scarbrough and Brenda Whyde-Parrish and the many who submitted pictures this issue would not have been possible.

Thank you all for your support of our Breed Publication.

Dear USGF Members,

Hopefully the Winter issue will be at the printers by this weekend and to you soon. Again I am sorry for this lateness but as in life some things can't be avoided.

Here is some news for 2010. For personal reasons, Tinell Priddy had to resign. She did an excellent job in 2009 and we thank her very much. Taking over as our new Editor is Judi Yearsley. You have seen some of her creativity in the summer issue with the Best of the Best and the Show Scenes. We are very thankful for Judi Email. One of our goals is to get the quarterly back on schedule with current deadlines. So the first deadline is going to be tough. It is APRIL 30th.

By the time that you get the winter issue you will have only a few weeks for the deadline of the spring issue. With that being said please, please, please send any final information now to Ardell, Email. By the way, even if you have another show planned send Ardell what you have and just add the other show later, it is less time for her workwise then getting everyone's at the deadline date.

Also please follow the sample in the USGF that is why we print a sample so you know what to include. On Show Scenes and Spotlights currently please send them to Judi, Email. It is difficult to remember every person's cat, so If you send a picture, you must have the cat's name and the people's name including judge otherwise it will not be used. We try to accomodate everyone but at deadline it is hard to play email tag trying to get information that was not included.

I am not trying to be harsh. It is easier for you to get the information to include in your picture than it is for us. Please follow directions and help us.

As for any ads just send them to me, Email.

All payments should go to our new Treasurer, Sally Daniels, Email
5242 Vista Grande Drive
Santa Rosa, CA 95403
USA

Sally has set up this paypal email address just for payments to the USGF Email
Remember when you send a payment always ADD $3 extra for the paypal charge.

The rates have stayed the same except for business card ads and we have tried to give everyone a break if they put in a card in this spring issue and let it run for the full year. For the whole year 4 issues, a business card ad would be $25. If you don't have a business card, don't worry we can design one for you. Now if you wait the cost is still $25 for 3 issues and then it is $10 an issue after that. So it is an incentive to plan NOW and get a card or picture sent to me for the spring issue.

I also would like to introduce the 2010 board since we had to make a few changes.

Dear USGF Members,

Please send Karol Cummins, Email a variety of professional quality photos of your cats. She would like to replace a lot of the old photos and add new ones to the website and have a good library to choose from when she needs a picture.

Members need to include the following for each picture submitted.

Name of cat
Sire:
Dam:
Color:
Website URL:

Karol is doing a lot of work on the website checking and revising a number of pages and converting some pdf articles to html. She would really like to get the slideshow working with new cats and links to members' websites off the ground as well.

Sincerely,

Gail Persinger, USGF President Email

Feb 14, 2010 is the deadline for the winter issue. This is the 4th issue for 2009. I am very sorry for the lateness of this, but we are trying very hard to get back on schedule for 2010.

Please submit any finals, spotlights, Ads or show scenes by that deadline. We will NOT accept anything after the deadline. We have to be B in this because that is one of the things that has caused us to be so late this past year.

As I stated in my President letter, Peggy wanted to resign as Treasurer and Sally Daniels has taken over her position. Please send all checks to Sally for your renewals and ads in the future.

Sally Daniels
5242 Vista Grande Dr
Santa Rosa, CA 95403

Sally has set up a paypal address just for payments to the USGF via Email. Remember when you send a payment always ADD $3 extra for the paypal charge.
If you need to talk to Sally please contact her on her regular email: Email.

The dues have not changed for 2010, they will remain $45 first class Domestic, $50 Canadian members, $70 International members. A renewal envelope will be sent out with the winter issue. However, you can still send your renewal to Sally now.

I am sorry that I had to turn away many of you for Christmas ads since we did not have a Christmas issue but I hope that you will still advertise will us. That being said, Please consider an ad and send it to me not later than Sat Feb 14.

Sincerely,
Gail Persinger, USGF President Email
