Shaded Silvers have a white undercoat, in contrast to the pure white undercoat of the Chinchilla Silver and have a "mantle" of even black tipping on their backs and tail, with more shading on their foreheads, cheeks and legs. The shading should be even and free of barring (Tabby stripes) for the show ring. The all over effect should be considerably darker than a Chinchilla. The eye color of a Shaded Silver can range from green to blue green.
Most Chinchillas and Shaded Silvers had been "color bred" for many, many years to acheive even tipping and no traces of the Tabby markings (stripes). I have noticed that most kittens born with a Mackerel Tabby (spotted) pattern are Chinchilla and those that are born with Classic Tabby (stripes) markings are Shaded Silvers. That said, we can all name exceptions to this rule! Also, many experienced breeders have noted that Shaded Silvers generally have darker margins and richer brick red nose leathers, which is in keeping with the all over (much) darker appearance of the Shaded Silver, in addition to the inclusion of the blue green eye color. The color standard for a Chinchilla Silver only specifies eyes must be green.
The CFA Standard for the Shaded Silver is as Follows:

undercoat white with a mantle of black tipping shading down from sides, face, and tail from dark on the ridge to white on the chin, chest, stomach, and under the tail. Legs to be the same tone as the face. The general effect to be much darker than a chinchilla. Rims of eyes, lips, and nose outlined with black. Nose leather: brick red. Paw pads: black. Eye color: green or blue-green. Disqualify for incorrect eye color, incorrect eye color being copper, yellow, gold, amber, or any color other than green or blue-green.
In terms of personality, Silver and Golden Persians are highly domesticated which makes them more dependent on their humans. Some have characterized their personalities as being "dog like" in that they will follow you from room to room and most love to "help" you with whatever you happen to be doing. Every Silver has a unique personality just like you and me. Some are lap or "velcro" kitties and others prefer to be with you, sitting close by. Many have also commented that Silvers and Goldens are more intelligent than "other" color Persians and have a very inquisitive and playful nature. It has also been noted that some Silvers and Goldens pick their special person in every family and can be counted on to be waiting at the door when you arrive home at night. Remember, cats in the wild co-exist in a pride, so it is for their benefit and well-being to make sure they have a feline companion especially if left alone for significant periods of time during the day while the family is away at school or work.
